5 Mistakes Furnishing a Villa in Lombok (And How to Avoid Them)

Rattan Wrap Bar Chair,

The most common mistakes furnishing a villa in Lombok aren't about bad furniture, they're about a buying process that's less standardised than what most people, expat or local, are used to. Here are the five that come up most often, and how to avoid each one.

Mistake 1: Working Off a Verbal Price Instead of a Written Quote

A number sent over WhatsApp isn't a quote. Without materials, dimensions, and price written down, it's easy for expectations to drift between what was discussed and what actually arrives. Always ask for a written quote that specifies the material (solid teak vs. veneer, for example), exact dimensions, finish, and total price before paying anything.

Mistake 2: Ordering Without Seeing the Material in Person

Photos can flatter a piece that looks different in person, especially wood grain, colour, and weave density on rattan. Where possible, visit a showroom and see the actual material before committing, particularly for larger or more expensive pieces like dining tables and sofas.

Mistake 3: Underestimating Lead Times for Custom Orders

Standard pieces take 1 to 2 months to produce, and custom orders may take longer. Expats furnishing a villa around a move-in date or a rental opening date often start sourcing furniture too late, then face a gap between the target date and what's actually possible. Start the furniture conversation as soon as the property is confirmed, not once renovations are finished.

Mistake 4: Not Planning for Outdoor Material Needs

Lombok's villa design leans heavily on semi-open living spaces, verandas, and pool areas, all of which expose furniture to humidity, sun, and rain even when technically "covered." Furniture chosen without weather resistance in mind (an indoor-grade rattan piece on an exposed veranda, for example) tends to degrade fast. Ask specifically whether a piece is rated for outdoor or covered-outdoor use before placing it in a semi-open space.

Mistake 5: Assuming There's a Fallback If the Contact Goes Quiet

Because a lot of furniture sourcing in Lombok happens through informal, single-contact arrangements, there's often no fallback if that person becomes unreachable, whether from a changed number, a closed workshop, or simply going quiet after payment. Buying from a supplier with a fixed showroom address and a real business behind it (not just a personal WhatsApp) means there's someone to reach if something needs to be resolved after delivery.

Furnishing a Villa the Straightforward Way

None of these mistakes are unique to any one buyer, they're just what happens when a market runs on informal arrangements instead of fixed showrooms and written terms. We handle written quotes, a physical showroom in Kuta, Lombok, and delivery, with on-site assembly included in the Kuta area. Browse the full catalogue or get in touch to start with a proper quote.

Browse matching pieces in our catalogue: Hoku Dining Table, Blind Bubble Sofa and Norah Lounge Chair.
